Hello again...

No, I haven't been abducted by aliens or anthing (though my brother might sometimes with it...). lol.

Not much happening in my life. Am somewhat making sketchy plans for the future - have figured out when I can (if accepted) start taking classes towards a degree in library science. Am trying to figure out the logistics to make it happen.
Pretty much everyone in the house (except my brother and the dog) have the flu. Which sucks for him, because he's the only one who would want the flu - no school!
Also, earlier this month, our one bird died - Casper. We're guessing old age. We still have the one, bird - Baby - that my cousin gave us, but still... Mom was pretty upset. Casper would go on her hand and everything. She was pretty attached to him.
But other than that... pretty much nothing.

Um... not really sure what else to write, honestly. Fanfic recommendations, maybe?
Let's see....

~ Sukunami's Fanfic - FF8 (SeiferXSquall)
~ Caeria's fanfics - ff.net account. I'd reccommend her story 'Pet Project', myself. Though if you don't like Snape's character much, you may wish to avoid her stories.
~ TheArchives fanfic - ff.net account. Naruto stories, that I've read - mainly the Naruto/Kiba ones.

I've got some books I can reccommend as well, come to think of it.

~ Phoenix and Ashes by Mercedes Lackey and
~ One Good Knight by Mercedes Lackey
Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In October I committed genocide... Sorry about that, ursulav (-5000 points). In June I helped colorfilter hide a body (-173 points). Last Sunday I didn't flush (-1 points). Last Friday I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). Last Monday I helped gunblade_girl across the street (6 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-5167 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
sakurakat

Gee, and here I thought most people just got coal - that I've seen, anyway. lol.
It made me laugh, anyway - especially the spanking bit. 'Cause, y'know... Some people'd consider that a good christmas gift... ^_^

not much to say.

Don't really have anything new going on. Had a dentist appointment yesterday, with several fillings. Didn't notice all too much, as I was fairly well drugged. lol.

Um... Found some music files from Wicked the musical - if it ever comes here, I'll definitely have to check it out. I'm planning on looking for the book, as well. Both sound quite interesting.
Have to admit, my first impression upon hearing the song 'Popularity' (before I found info on the musical), was that whoever was the main singer (it's practically a solo, except for two lines) should be... I dunno. Smacked upside the head or something. So bloody annoying.

Glinda - Elphie, now that we're friends, I've decided to make you my new project!
'Elphie' - You really don't have to do that...
Glinda - I know! That's what makes me so nice!

Sad thing is? It gets worse. lol.

Um... lately I've been reading some of Eric Flint's books on the Baen Free Library. Mainly 1632, and 1633. Definitely books I'd reccommend - though honestly I like most of his stuff. Even if it is a tad hard to follow at times, with all the weapon/military stuff.

The Baen Free library.

Have also re-read Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce.
Am going to start on The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey.

Am also considering starting a sim's journal. Not sure. I definitely have enough photos, etc. for one, but am not entirely sure as to how to upload the photos, etc.
Plus, I may be having to deal with a glitch in the game - one of the infants doesn't seem to want to age. I'm not sure if it's a glitch, or I'm just not doing something - or she's not supposed to age yet. I think it's been enough time, about 7 or 8 days.

Can't think of much else to write, really. lol.

been a while...

Recent news. Hm...

Have even more animals. lol. Two rabbits (formerly a neighbors), and a bird (formerly a cousin's). One of my mom's friends made a joke about 'Joanne's animal shelter'. lol. And then mentioned her son was thinking about getting rid of his cat (which we'd given him in the first place)... however the cat went out to his half sister on the farm.

Um... still don't know what's wrong with that book post. Any help on that is welcomed.

Propably have links to fix, as well. FF.net likes to switch addresses for author pages and stuff, I think. It's annoying - especially when you're like me and have 12 folders of authors to go through and fix. And then sort through to see which ones are still even on the site.

Um... oh, yeah.

For a while now, I've remembered this book a read several times when I was propably around the ages of 10 up to 12. Then I forgot about it, up until a thought of it popped into my head - and now I don't know what the heck the book was called. Or, who it was by. lol.

Anyway, please comment if it sounds familiar.Collapse )

In other news, have listened to and decided I like Rob Zombie. God help me. lol. Also, Sister by She Wants Revenge, and Hate Me by Blue October.

Nursery Rhymes

It started raining here a few minutes ago - seconds before we left ceramics class.
lol. It was just pouring which was interesting to have to run through.

Luckily it's nice out, so the water was just cool - actually felt cool.

I love the rain.

Anyway, not too surprisingly, the nursery about the old man popped into my head.
Y'know, this one:

I'ts raining
It's pouring
the old man in snoring
he fell out of bed
and bumped his head
and couldn't get up in the morning.

And shortly after we got home, it kinda hit me.
You know how most kid's rhymes are pretty - oh - macabre, at best?
Like ring around the roses is supposed to be about the plague or something?
Not even to mention the Lizzie Borden one:

Lizzie Borden took an axe
and gave her father forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
she gave her mother forty-one.

Yeah. So anyway, it occured to me - For some odd reason - I think 'the old man' had
a concussion. Isn't that why you're not supposed to let someone with a concussion fall
asleep? Because they can die or get brain damage or something?

It even said that he 'bumped his head'.

Dunno. Just some random weird thing that popped into my head.
lol.
And of course, the storm stopped as soon as we got home. Or it wasn't raining in our
part of the city (about 10 blocks away or so, maybe?).

Mother's Day

Random thing. I just went downstairs, and spoke to my mom and her friend. So mom asked me how I thought suppper looked – it was some hamburger helper thing on the stove.

I told her it looked like something a cat had eaten, then shit out –with diarrhea.

Lol. Yes, I do have a warped sense of humor. It seems to run in the family, actually.

Anyway, mom and her friend laughed, and mom told me “You know, you are going to have to eat that, later.”
Her friend was saying ‘oh, thanks, I do have to eat supper, later, you know.”
I said that I knew.
Mom said something along the lines of “If you think that’s bad, you should have tried the pancakes she mad this morning” (Pancakes I made – for her for mother’s day. Failed experiment, somewhat.)
“They were banana pancakes, and they weren’t bad until you hit a banana - you know when you have snot in your mouth, or cough up fleghm?

Lol. Thanks, mom. She liked them other than that though - that and the fact that there seemed to be too much baking soda. Have to just make normal ones, next time.
If you have read the whole book, bold it. If you have read part of the book, italicize it. If you own it but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, ** it.
Chantry added: if I (you?) can't believe this has been banned, it gets three stars (***).

I'm going to put it a bit different. Read some - italics, Own but haven't read - one *, read all - bold, want to read - two *s, and can't believe it was banned - three *s.

The ListCollapse )
No, there aren't any 'I can't believe they banned this' stars. I can usually figure out why the book was banned - doesn't make me think the parents/school/other was any less of a moron with an iq of 0, but I can usually figure out the why...

whiningCollapse )<a href="http://www.witchesway.net/links/burningtimes/executed.html>here</a> is another link to a list of victims of 'witchcraft' persecution. I'm fairly certain it's not as complete - it seems to got by year under the categories, most recent I saw being 1929 - the other page also listed Tempest Smith - a 12 year old in the U.S. who killed herself a few years ago because of bullying at school relating to her apparently wearing dark clothes, and reading books on wicca (If I recall correctly). Supposedly there was a mass killing in 200(?), as well - in africa somewhere? Not sure. Like I said, the site was lost. What, you thought it was over? No, people as a whole are (unfortunately) often just as stupid now as they were back then. </lj-cut>
Not much to say since the last update.

Started - and finished reading Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers.

It's a really good book - though it's propably good that I don't have a very weak stomach. It's about the experiences of an U.S. soldier fighting in the Vietnamese war.

From back of book: "Fighting to Survive On a jungle battlefront where one misplaced step could be any soldier's last, every move can mean the difference between death and survival. Richie Perry, Lobel, Johnson, Brunner, and Peewee are all in Vietnam. They came there for different reasons, but now they share a single dream - getting out alive."

Not to sure what else to say - It's a book I would definitely reccommend, though you propably shouldn't read it if you have a weak stomach. The profanity is one of the milder things people might take offence to.

I suppose that means it's good to keep an open mind. Whatever else, it seems very realistic, and it's very descriptive - it's easy to picture the settings and situations the author describes.

Wow, I actually did more work....

Okay, the formerly incorrect links to authors/stories on ff.net are now fixed, one author's name has changed since then and that has been corrected... and I fixed a typo that messed with the html work on an entry.

The Icon is found at the wonderful Boys Next Door homepage - and as per the instructions, here is the link to their community -
Boys Next Door LJ Community
And a link to the site for good measure -
Boys Next Door

Categorized things in memories, as well. Family anecdotes, book recommends, etc.

Nothing major, but done.

Been longer than ususal even....

lol. Wow it has been a while....
Lots has happened, too - a fair amount of it bad at that.

Where to start? Let's see... as stated, last June my mom had her appendix taken out.

Then the month afterward, one of our two dogs - who we'd had since I was in third grade - named misty developed some type of kidney disease. Mom tried to get her fixed up at the vet, but eventually had to have her put down, deciding it wasn't worth making her suffer.

Then in august - a month and four days (aprox.) after misty, my cat became ill - she had a massive tumor in her stomach. We took her to the vet, and had to have her put down. Her name was cuddles (yes, dorky, but I was four when I named her...), and she was about thirteen.

Then in August, a month - to the day - that we had Cuddles put down, my mom's dog Mikey went into a seizure after developing a cough earlier in the day. He died as well.

Then - god help me - in September, my brother had to go into the hospital. And I bet you could never guess what he went in for... Appendicitis.

What - Cursed- us? Nah. lol...

After losing all the animals - the fuzzy ones, anyway - especially so close together like that, everone was really miserable - especially my mom. I honestly can't remember not having an animal, like a dog or a cat in the house - ever. When I was born til I was six, we had a dog, until she had to be put down, and we still had the (then 2 yr old) cat at the time. We got misty the next year. Then Mikey two or three years later - as well as a guinea pig, a pair of hamsters, and two bird over the next few years.

So, understandably, the pet-less situation didn't last long.

Her name is Bella - my brother's doing. She's a shi-tzu, and not a year old yet. We got her at eight weeks old - on thanksgiving.

She's well on her way to being my mom's spoilt brat. My mother makes sure her water is refreshed daily - or when it gets too warm (because Bella likes it when the water is ice cold - you have to let the water run for a bit before refilling her dish!).

She also like to eat salad - every time we have it for supper (or in tacos) my mom has to take some and
put it in her dish for her. Because otherwise she'll sit and bark at you until you give her some. ^_^;

Have I mentioned that Shi-tzus are known for not barking often, despite being guard dogs? My mom her how in an effort to teach her to respond to "say please" - she learnt well. Well enough that she does it when my mom talks to her sometimes - which prompts my mother to ask - "Are you talking back to Me?" 'Bark..." Of course, since it's the dog she thinks it's cute....

lol. Anyways.... hm...
Got strep throat(or some type of throat flu) a few weeks ago. Not good. Worse - I got put on Amoxycilin. Strep Throat & Allergies! Allergies which showed up after a week of taking the pills! Not good.

So got a major (extremely itchy rash). Waited, didn't go away. Went to the doctor, and had to get a shot of adrenaline. Those people who do stupid sports for the adrenaline rush? They need help. I felt nausceous, and couldn't stop shaking. Went to the hospital to get some other shot I needed - almost passed out at one point. Had an IV put in - tensed up at first, and it kind of missed or something, so I ended up getting stuck twice. Had to stay overnight, with an IV and having Benadryl and the like pumped into me. Blood taken - which thanks to the Benadryl, etc. doping me up I barely noticed. Finally ended up having to stay overnight in one of those horrible group/emergency rooms. Ugh.

Got a new stuffed kitten out of it though. Some TY thing from the gift shop.

Felt weird for days afterwards - apparently the drugs are fairly long lasting. Though, not so much weird,
as having really bizarre things randomly pop into my head. Was disturbing.

Actually debated posting then, just so I could see what my mood 'icon' would look like for manic. There actually isn't one, though, so oh well...

Other than that, I guess not too much more. Then again, that's really more than enough.

My birthday - 18! - I got the mummy trilogy boxed set.

Christmas - got Nintendo DS and nintendogs - very cute. I have a Shiba Inu on the game named Tanuki! Clothes, a dvd of Chobits episodes. And the boxed set of the first three ./hack manga - including the first one - which I had gotten from my parent before. lol.

Am wondering about Easter. I know in the states the drinking age is - like - 21, and in Saskatchewan, it's 19 (one more year). However, in Alberta - where my cousin's live - it's 18. Hm. Not sure what to think - don't really have an particular determination to go out and experience a hangover. Might be interesting to have something with dinner though - if I remember to bring I.D.

Otherwise I won't get anything - most people think I still look, like, 14. lol. Better than looking older than I am, I guess.

Have major reading plans over the next few weeks. Decided I needed to look up what books have been banned/challenged in the states and Canada. And formulate an 'I must read' list.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was one of the first on the list - I read it during high school
and loved it - Was way better than Steinbeck, which I hated reading.

Other on the list are The Wars by Timothy Findley, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit (while not a banned book - to my knowledge - some parents have had a problem with one of her other books), The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, The Headless Cupid by Zilpha Keatley Snyder,
and Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers.

Suggestions welcome - except Steinbeck. Like I said - I suffered in high school, and once is enough.

And if that seems odd to anyone, since both 'To kill a mockingbird' and 'Of mice and men' are, as I said, frequently 'challenged' books - well guess where my teacher got her idea for a reading list. lol. The banned books list. She actually brought in a list of, like, the top ten books and read it to us.

We also had to read Flowers for Algernon, and the Grapes of Wrath (which I never got around to), and the old man and the sea.

Personally I found them rather dull - yet I liked doing Shakespear. Especially in grade twelve (Hamlet) - we had a different (but equally awesome) teacher, who brought in lists of words to use, and had a make up and 'translate' shakespearean era insults.

Umm... not much more. Got Tamora Pierce' new book The Will of the Empress a few months ago. Adored it, as I do much of her work, especially all pertaining to this particular 'world'.

Have been looking up a lot of music. Found a site for a band called HollowPoint Halo which I now adore. However to my knowledge they only have three songs so far - and are currently located in India (I am guessing, anyway - they make a reference to Win (Women in Need) Sri Lanka, presumably in reference to their song Black Eye Lullabye) - so it may be a while before we (state-side) are fortunate enough to have ready
access to their music in formats other than through their site.

Site link HERE btw...

Also was looking for (but didn't find) West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown by Jimmy Buffet (old, old song from the 70s. Don't think it's been re-done anywhere since - to my knowledge anyway), but did find two other songs I'm amused by - "Let's get drunk and scew", and "The Asshole song"; as well as "A Pirate Looks at 40" which I honestly like.

Also have decided I like Anastacia - Left outside alone, Garbage - Cherry Lips, Systom of a Down - Hypnotize, Carrie Underwood - Jesus take the wheel, Impossible by Whitney Houston and Brandy (from one of the Cinderella movies - Rodger and Hammerstein' lyrics). And propably many, many others.

Also, am I the only one to notice this? I know I pointed it out to Takeesis. I listened to the song "If I were a rich man" from Fiddler on the roof. And it drove me nuts, thinking "Where have I heard this before?"

Needless to say it took me a few minutes - I was thinking they'd changed it and put it in Moulin Rouge or the like - I wasn't thinking Gwen Stefani, that was for sure.

For those who haven't heard it and can't understand what I mean - It's not the song itself, just some common lyrics, where the tune is similar.

Mainly: FotR: "If I were a rich man, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum. All day long I'd biddy biddy bum. If I were a wealthy man."
Gwen: "If I was a rich girl... nana nana nana nanananananananana" I'd have all the money in the world... If I were a wealthy girl.

Yes, I'm propably nuts. Personally, I'm just glad I figured out the resemblance before my head exploded.
lol. Anyways....

That's about all that I've really got to say. Will propably try to fix the broken fanfic links next, and
organize a bit. Something.

TTYL,
SakuraKat.
